Urter i hagen

"Treetop-walk" i Denmark.

...I cant believe I paid to do this! ;)

"Mammuth-cave" i Margareth River.

"Valley of the Giants" , Denmark.

Her kunne barna nyte ha samling ute i det fri nesten ret gjennom!

Stranda, som ogs l rett over veien :)

Norske venner i Australia :)

Snegle-lp!

Egg-eksperiment- og bibel-time :)

Slik gjr man:

"Do not be misled :Bad company corrupts good character."

~1 Corinthians 15:33

"Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their hearts falls into trouble"

~ Proverbs 28:14

Planting seeds this spring!

Through the winter we have collected a variety of fruit-seeds. These were planted in little bio-pots bought at the grocery-store.You can put the potsright in the soil, when the little sprouts are showing. Less mess and less waste :)

This was the finished-result and we kept them inside for a few weeks until the weather was warmer.

Today, about a month and a half later, we planted the chive-sprouts out in my daughters flowerbed.Almost noneof the other seeds has come up, it has probably been to cold at night, but one chili-sprout was taken inside and we hope to get fruit on this one! I love teaching my children about nature this way. They enjoy it so much when they get to participate :)

Fruit-trees

This spring we planted three fruit trees in what is to be a little fruit-tree-forrest in our backyard. This year we picked out one apple-tree and two different types of cherry-trees. I want this little forrest to be a place where we can play and have picnicks for those days when we want to stay at home. The children were good helpers and got to learn about the process of planting a tree.

The plastic-bags with pebbles in them, are for keeping the branches down, this will give the tree more fruit and the children will be able to reach the branches. In a couple of months we will take the plastic-bagsoff, and the branches will be shaped this way.

My gifts <3

On the beach

One of our favorite things to do :)

I wanted to share with you one of theactivities we do as often as we can- simply because it is fun and you learn alot. The beach is great for exploring, inquiring and discovering! My children and I love to collect and learn about sea-shells,kelp,rocks, sticks, sand, leafes... you name it! Of course we enjoy it evenmore when the weather is warm but even on days like this, we often put on our wind-coats and go exploring by the sea. The things we collect are often used in different craft-projects. After a day on the beach we usually read or watch a movie on the things we have seen. It is very rewarding, both for me and my familiy, as we learn about Gods wonderful creation, sea-safety, changing seasons.... alot is apliable to be taught here, not to mention all of the good memories that are being made :)

Making an octopus!

All done! After the making, while I was cleaning up, he went and "bathed" the octopusses in the bathroom-sink... he might have heard that they live in the water :)

science-day at the zoo

The weather was beautiful anddaddy had a day off from workso we all headed to the local zoo for school. Who says schoolis boring?!I love giving the word "school" a positive meaning to my children. The zoo is perfect for science- all the animals has signs on their cage or house that says a little bit about them, where they origin from and so on. My second grader (She just started on her 2. grade books by the way :) ) gets to practice reading at the same time. The most important thing is that we all have fun together, the learning cames naturally that way.

Is she not brave?! :)

My "braveheart"

mommy and little brother meeting the lemurs

A peacock showing us his beautiful feathers- my daughter is impressed!

The zoo also had monkeys, suricats, pigs, rabbits, different types of reptiles and other animals.Outside there was anice playgound for the children and benches where we could have a picknic right by, lovely! We bought an entrance-card that lasts all year, to be able to go there often.

Play-dough-time!

She loooooves play-dough, can you tell?!

It was "one of those days" where little brother decided to be not so cooperative- he would rather walk around on the table, getting the play-dough stuck under his feet, rather than play with the dough, this is the reason we dont have any pictures from "the making"... But, here is the result! We went for the zoo-theme and made ourselves these cute little animals :)

Checking out the zoo :)

We keep it in plastic-containers after opening to make it last longer :O)

What our day might look like

I have had many people asking me how we do homeschooling and what our days looks like and to be honest, it is a hard question to answer. The reson being that the content of our days varies alot. Some days we do excursions, some days we go exploring nature, some days we have a certain theme and focus on that through drawing, art, writing and experiences, some days we stay at home to discover and learn in and nearby our home, other days we are out traveling or do arts and crafts-nights with friends. As you see there is no way to give a quick answer to how we do it, but I have taken some picturesthroughout one day where we spend most of our day at home to show how our day might look like ;)

Bigsister is learning how to operate the stove while littlebrother just wants to get the breakfast-rolls in there!

The kids help set the table and we are ready for breakfast. Lately our theme around the breakfast-table has been Gods ten commandments. Each day we have talked about one on the commandments and discussed how we can apply them into our lives. Bigsister is the kind that asks ALOT of questions, which is great for her learning! Littlebrother looks like he is most interested in whether to choose cheese or jam for his roll, but I am sure he benefits from our talks as well.

I made this Chore-chart and stuck it up on the wall for bigsister to know what needs to be done before lunch (since she is only a 1.st. grader we are not too strict, if there is one day we just want to play or do something else, we do :) ). Although such a chart has been good to keep a flow in the learning-process. After a while we change our chores, but they always include math, writing, language and reading.

Starting to learn the times-table. We printed these fun math-sheets and laminated them to last longer.

Each day we practise "read-a loud" and by doing that we see what is good and what needs to be worked on. She chooses the page and reads out loud for us. The children loves routines and by having these few things we do almost every day, they get a sence ofpredictability which is good for them.

Littlebrother is just being a one-year-old :)

Littlebrother is doing great in toddler-school and loves to learn. Here we use little colored beads to learn the different colors, both in Norwegian and English.

"Peek-a-Boo"!

Just plain play! :)

Lunch is being made and my goofy-girl is eager to learn how to cook. Cooking is a great way to learn about measurements, food in other countries, healthy and unhealthy food, safety,calculation... you name it!

Eating the food is not bad either!

Out playing and learning at the same time. One square for each of the years twelve months.

Doing math using sidewalk-chalk.

When daddy gets home we make dinner together...

and eat dinner together :)

These were some glimps of one of our days, I would love to hear about your day! :)

Making dinner!

We are having so much fun making dinner together. Watching the children learn and enjoy themselves at the same time, makes all the mess worth it!:)Here our oldest is chopping aubergine.

Little guy washing the squash!

I love the smell and sight of freshly chopped vegetables, mmmm...

Pleased with the result! I wish you could have been here to smell the rosemary and timian....mmmm

When the dish was baking in the oven I told Little guy that it was chicken we were going to eat. While eating dinner he spilled some food on the floor and said "Ooooh"!. I asked if he dropped something and he replied "drop a bird!!!!".

Home-Ec with Grandpa!

The flag-day!

Today my little girl was all about flags, so I saw the opportunity, put awayour plan for the dayand turned it into a "Flag-day" instead. Mom, 1.st. grader and little brother looked up flags on the internet and talked about the different countrieseach flag belonged to. Of course, when you are six, the whole history of the country in faaaaaar from interesting, insted we talked a little about the capitols and I looked up some facts that she wanted to know about that certain country.

Here is our WALL OF FLAGS

On top, to the right ; 1st. grader insisted on making a "Finish-flag" as well. :)

Frokost

Our Homeschool boxes

Weuse one box for each of the subjects, one for artwork-materials, one for paint, one for finished projects, one for upcoming projects and so on. This way we can easily find what we need and keep order at the same time, I like it! The boxes are from ikea, and the cute owls we printed out from the internet and laminated.

Each of the children will have their own Homeschool-binder for work-sheets, diplomas and other things from that year. This is my daughters 1st. grade-binder :)

Tall-kort

"Printable" nummer-kort fra www.mrprintables.com, du finner dem her http://www.mrprintables.com/printable-flash-cards.html

Tall-tips

Nyter utsikten 241 trinn opp!

Learning in a FUN way!

So much easier and more fun tolearn the numbers when they get to create artwork!

I adore these finger-puppets! You can print them out at www.thetoymaker.comYou get them for free but you are welcome to make a donation to the site if you want to. The site is really wort a peek, they have so much fun for the children (and mamas & papas!)

Every time they walk up the stairs they see the numbers and count :)

Some of our latest learning-projects

Scones

Little ones and big ones are having a good time making delicious scones!

The finished result. More fun to eat when they are shaped ascute, littlehearts ♥

The kids even made their own personal-designed scones. My daughter made this one and as we all can see, it's a tiny crocodile!

I am not too little to change tires!

..and she sure wasn't :)

Outing with fire and friends!

Gotta have food! Of course its more funfor the children to participate in the preparation of the food :)

Eating the food is not bad either!

Grown-ups and children playing together.

One of the families brought their dog. A very friendlylittle buddythat loved all the attention he got from the children:)

Feeding the ducks

Children and water... Im facinated by the fact that children does not seem to mind getting wet clothes, if they can only have fun while getting wet! :)

Water bring out the beautiful colors of pebblesand rocks :)

Egg-larvae :)

A great way to to make a use of empy egg-cartons!

Art by the familys big sister.

The childrens crafting-night.

Cones can be used for many purposes :) The children painted cones and the grown-ups did the rest. The result was beautiful!

clothespins painted by the children and glued to a white-painted piece of wood. A great idea! Decorativeand so easy to make. Little brother liked the colors and wanted to take a closer look at the artwork :)

Out fishing with good friends!

Deep concentration when big sister gets todrive the boat by "herselves", with mommy safely by her side. She did really good after some practicing and began to get the feeling of how much she should turn the wheel before the boat started turning.

Life-jackets are life-saving and obligatory when we go boating.

The children took turn in fishing with a fishing pole. For a long time it looked like there was no fish in the sea... but then we finally got three mackerel
and one cod :) Afterwards we went up to grandpas cabin and made a delicious meal. Freshly fishedboiled fish, onion, butter and potatoes....mmmm, nothing compares!

Rhubarb-lemonade!

Grandpa picked lots of delicious rhubarb for us to make lemaonade. First we washes the stems and My daughter was a great helper! We used some brown sugar and some coconut-sugar in the making, and the result was yummy! A little bit sour but lots of great rhubarb-flavour and a healthier lemonade than most of the ones you get in the grocery store:)

The finished result but on bottles :)I actually prefer glass-bottles but we had none available this time..

The recipe;

I

  • rhubarb,chopped
  • 1 1/2cup(s)brown or cocoa-sugar
  • 5cup(s) water
  • 1 1/2pound(s)strawberries,stemmed and crushed (optional)
  • 1cup(s)freshly squeezed lemon juice.about 5 large lemons

Add water, rhubarb, sugar, lemon zest to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes. Stirin strawberries and bring to a boil again. Let the mixture cool. Strain through a sieve. Stir in the remaining cup of sliced strawberries and a cup of lemon juice. Pour over ice and enjoy

Early Fall trip with Grandma.

Wild-strawberries on a straw! An all time favorite :) I really enjoy trips with children because of the pausing. Every new flower, every little berry, a cone... you name it, is so very facinating :) A great way to learn about nature, in a fun way.

Grandma knows about flowers and plants and my daughter knows to ask LOTS of questions!

Every sign has to be read! Along the trail there was put up signs telling about plants and trees in that particular area. Our little one is really starting to get a hang on reading and hurried to each new sign to read :)
